The Harvest alternative that
shows which projects pay

Fini weighs each hour’s cost against what it billed, so you see real profit and margin by project, client and team member. Every seat gets it. Harvest keeps cost rates on Teams and profitability reporting on Enterprise.

What a Fini seat gets you

Every seat, one price.

  • Profit and margin by project, client and person. Revenue from billable rates, cost from per‑person rates, across every hour logged whether or not it reached an invoice.
  • Cost rates with effective dates. Raise someone’s salary in March and last year’s margin still uses last year’s number.
  • Timesheet approvals and week locking. A locked week rejects edits, and a running timer discards rather than writing into it.
  • Team utilization and capacity, org‑wide and per person.
  • Invoicing for hours, expenses and fixed‑fee work, out to PDF, with a draft‑to‑paid lifecycle and an uninvoiced preview.
  • Project budgets and burn tracking.
  • Profit and margin by stage. Break a project into phases, each with its own budget, and see what schematic design earned against what construction administration cost, added up across every job, not one project at a time. Optional, so projects and tasks work on their own.
  • Recent activity on every project and client. Who logged what, when, on which task, with their notes.
  • Expense tracking with receipts.
  • Reports out to CSV, Excel and PDF.
  • Projects, clients and invoices that aren’t metered. Seats are the only thing Fini counts.

Three differences that decide it

Profit reporting’s included

Fini has one plan, and margin reporting is on it. A Harvest Teams account can hold what every person costs and still not tell you what a project made, because the rates and the reporting sit one tier apart.

The seat price is the whole bill

Fini charges for seats and nothing else. Harvest prices both paid plans “starting from” a seat rate, and says additional invoices, projects, clients and tasks are “billed based on what you use.”

Approvals aren’t an upgrade

Fini has timesheet approvals and week locking on its only plan. On Harvest, timesheet approval is on Enterprise.

What five people cost for a year

Fini
$720 and that is the bill
Harvest Enterprise
$840 before per‑unit fees
Harvest Teams
$540 before per‑unit fees, and no profitability reporting

Annual billing, five seats, at the rates in the table. Fini’s figure is the whole invoice, because seats are the only thing it counts.

Moving across

Half an afternoon, and you have margin from the first week.

  1. Export your Harvest history and keep it. What you tracked there stays there, so pull it to CSV for your records before you stop paying them.
  2. Add your clients and projects to Fini. Typed in once. For most firms this is the longest step and it is still short.
  3. Set a cost rate for each person, with the date it took effect. This is the number margin is built from, and the one step worth doing carefully.
  4. Set billable rates on projects, flat, per member or per task, and mark the fixed‑fee ones as fixed fee.
  5. Track a week, then open the profitability report. You will have margin by project, client and person from the first week forward.

Check it before you believe it

You already have the data to test the argument on this page, and you don’t need us to run it. Export last quarter from Harvest. Take your two busiest projects and your two quietest. Cost every hour at what the person actually costs you, including the hours that never reached an invoice, and set that against what each project billed.

The order they come out in is rarely the order anyone expects. That gap is what Fini is for, and it is worked through with real numbers here.

Questions

What happens to our Harvest history?

It stays in Harvest, so export your time, projects and invoices to CSV and PDF and keep them before you close the account. Fini reports from the first week you track in it.

Harvest Teams is cheaper. Why pay more?

Teams is $9 a seat against Fini’s $12, and it does carry cost rates. What it doesn’t carry is profitability reporting or approvals, so it can hold what every hour costs and still not tell you what a project made. If that answer isn’t one you need, the cheaper plan is the cheaper plan.

What’s the risk in switching?

Every account comes with a 14‑day money‑back guarantee. Tell us inside two weeks and we refund you in full, no questions asked.

Does Fini do phases, like architecture and engineering work?

Yes. Break a project into phases, each with its own budget, and get profit and margin by stage: every schematic design across every job on one line, every construction administration on another. Harvest has no phases inside a project; their help centre recommends making each phase a separate project instead, which means the same stage on two jobs is two projects and never adds up. Phases are optional in Fini, so projects and tasks work fine on their own.

How does Fini fit with QuickBooks or Xero?

Invoices go out as PDF, and time, expenses and reports export to CSV or Excel. You can upload those files to QuickBooks or Xero whenever you like, or hand them straight to your bookkeeper.

Does Fini support SSO (single sign‑on)?

No. Sign‑in is email and password. If your firm mandates SSO, Fini isn’t the right tool.

What happens to our data if we leave Fini?

It’s yours. Export your time, reports and invoices to CSV, Excel or PDF whenever you want, including on your way out.
